Abigail Adams (1774-1818), Boston Women’s Memorial, wearing a scarf in the American suffragist colors. Born in Weymouth MA, Adams was a humanitarian, activist, leader in the fight for women’s rights, principal advisor to president John Adams, her husband, and the mother of president John Quincy Adams. In her will she left the majority of her personal possessions to her female relatives, something unheard of at the time.
Send us your photos and we will post them on March 31st, which we now claim as our own day of visibility. If we receive enough photos we will use them to create a digital poster which we all can send (with a personal letter) to our state legislators and other law and policy makers.
Perhaps you live near a monument or site which has historic significance to the fight for women's rights or which commemorates the achievements of a particular women. Take a photo and include yourself and/or an object which expresses your relationship to women's rights, accomplishments or history. Or you could simply share a photo of yourself, with or without friends, in your favorite woman related t-shirt, or holding a sign, or a book, the possibilities are endless. And of course, hide your face if you need to.
Please send your photo by March 27th to ma4women@proton.me and tell us if you live inside or outside of Massachusetts. We promise complete confidentiality regarding your identity and email address. We might contact you if we have a question about your photo, but otherwise we promise to never ever use it for anything else or disclose it to anyone. Use a proton mail account if you want an extra layer of security.
